Creating a website can be a tricky thing,i screwed things up the first time i tried to make one so don't feel discouraged if you did the same.Okay first off you'll need to get a domain name.Remember short names are usually better but if you have a long name that will work just as fine, just as long as it is memorable and is not like (www.Tim23134sightersnumber1) .I recommend the best place to get a domain is from Godaddy because of their cheap prices, and if you search around the internet you'll see that people think the same thing and plus you'll get a big discount on hosting.
Now once you have a Domain name you'll need a host, again i recommend Godaddy because of their 99.9 percent up time and what i experienced as good customer service.Do not let other people fool you into going for small hosting companies and staying away from big names like Godaddy because they had a bad time with them,i think it best to be with a big name because the provide better deals, service, and uptime.
Now if your going to be buying from Godaddy there are 2 plans regular and website tonight,in each are economy (the smallest),deluxe(bigger) and premium(the biggest and the one i recommend for websites like mine) .Regular is for professionals or someone who has prior HTML education, while website tonight is for someone with no experience at all in the website creating business and wants to begin a website easily. Now being stubborn i chose the regular route because hell,I don't need a beginner website program. I created a free webs and a myspace.....DONT do what i did,I tried to make the website from the deluxe regular package by using dotnetnuke and in the process wasted a few hours ill never get back.It was a disaster and the next day i switched to the website tonight and ever since have been loving it.
Website tonight is easy to use, everything is layed out well and they give you 1000s of template choices. But there is a few drawbacks. The first bothered me the most,it being you cant upload your own template. The second being, the templates they give you aren't the best Ive seen but with a little work you can make them look good but it may take some time and some uploading of new pictures. And the last drawback is that i think they where messing with me by hiding how to do a drop down menu because i was looking for days then finally i called someone who was, well oriented with website tonight and taught me how to do it,from his car by memory as it was a very obvious way to make a drop down. I felt stupid but was happy because i had a drop down menu!
After you bought one of the two above you can design and publish your website by the click of a button. Oh and for anyone who has Website tonight and needs a question answered just contact me through "Tell Us" and i would be happy to help you out.
